Granite
Granite is a natural igneous stone quarried from the earth and cut into slabs before being polished for use as worktops. How to Care for Your Granite Worktops
Recommended Daily / Regular Care
- Clean with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge.
- Wipe spills promptly, especially oils, wine, citrus juices and acidic foods, which can affect the sealant.
- Dry with a microfibre cloth to maintain a polished finish.
- Re-seal the surface periodically (typically every 1–2 years depending on the stone and usage).
What to Avoid
- Harsh or abrasive cleaners: Products containing bleach, ammonia or acids can degrade the sealant and damage the stone.
- Scouring pads: These may scratch the polished surface.
- Cutting directly on the surface: Use a chopping board to protect both your knives and the worktop.
- Placing extremely hot pans directly: While granite is heat resistant, sudden thermal shock can still cause cracks; use trivets where possible.
- Allowing standing liquids: Prolonged contact with oils, wine or acidic substances can mark or etch the sealant.
- Skipping resealing: Granite requires periodic sealing to stay resistant to stains and moisture.
